Netaji Subhas University, Jamshedpur, in collaboration with the Jamshedpur Police and CyberPeace Corps, successfully organized a Cyber Peace Awareness Seminar on 17th April 2025. The initiative, led by the School of Engineering and IT, aimed to equip students with vital knowledge on cyber security, safe digital practices, and the importance of cyber hygiene in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from B.Tech second semester students, highlighting a growing awareness and interest in cyber security among young technocrats. The seminar featured an impressive panel of speakers comprising law enforcement officials and cyber experts:
- Navita Prasad – Speaker and Cyber Awareness Advocate.
- Srinivas Kumar – Thana Incharge, Cyber Thana.
- Tarak Das – State Co-ordinator, CyberPeace Corps.
The session began with a welcome address by the organizing committee, followed by a keynote speech from Navita Prasad , who set the tone by emphasizing the critical need for cyber awareness in a digitally connected world. She shed light on CyberPeace Corps’ vision and its role in building a secure digital India.
Mr. Srinivas Kumar elaborated on the role of law enforcement in tackling cyber threats, detailing recent case studies and how swift coordination between tech experts and police can prevent large-scale digital frauds.
Mr. Tarak Das, a seasoned educator and speaker, focused on cyber ethics and the psychological impact of cybercrimes on victims. He encouraged students to adopt responsible online behavior and report suspicious activities promptly.
Outcomes of the Seminar:
- Increased Awareness: Students gained a deeper understanding of current cyber threats such as phishing, identity theft, ransomware, and social engineering attacks.
- Practical Insights: Real-life examples from the police helped students relate theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.
- Enhanced Vigilance: The seminar instilled a sense of responsibility and caution among students regarding their digital behavior.
- Certification Opportunity: Students were encouraged to enroll in the 10-hour Google-Certified Master Trainer Program in cybersecurity—offered free of cost. This opened doors for those interested in pursuing careers in the cyber security domain.
- Law-Technology Bridge: The interaction between students and law enforcement bridged the gap between technical education and legal enforcement, inspiring several students to consider public service roles in cyber security.
The Cyber Peace Awareness Seminar proved to be an eye-opener for B.Tech students, helping them realize the importance of cyber hygiene and the role they can play in promoting a safe digital ecosystem. With growing digital dependence, such initiatives are crucial in shaping a cyber-aware generation.
